Guidelines for Submitting Projects

To ensure the quality and consistency of our data, we must verify that each Project Capsule submitted to the Digital Dividend Clearinghouse meets the following guidelines. Please read carefully. If you have any questions about whether or not your project meets these guidelines, please email us at dividends@wri.org prior to submitting a Project Capsule.

"Digital dividend" initiatives are IT-based or enabled projects geared towards communities at the bottom of the economic pyramid or that are otherwise underserved-projects, such as providing connectivity, services, or enabling digital tools, which have potentially significant social, economic, or environmental benefits.

The Clearinghouse is limited to projects that are located in developing or transition countries or that, while headquartered elsewhere, do their primary work in those countries. Developed country projects are only accepted if they focus on poor, rural, indigenous populations and can be said to generate learning relevant to developing country projects.

We are most interested in for-profit projects or enterprises, because we believe that they can most easily reach the scale necessary for significant impact. We include many non-profit projects because they are an important source of experimentation and learning, and we include some government projects because they play an important enabling or demonstrative role.

The Clearinghouse currently encompasses projects in several areas, including: agriculture, business services, computer training, cultural preservation, e-commerce, e-governance, education, empowerment of women, enabling technology, environment, equipment recycling, financial services, healthcare, NGO capacity building, national network development, portal, radio, rural telephony, telecenter, and youth. New project categories may be added as necessary. For a complete description of each, please see our category definitions.

It is our hope that the Clearinghouse will not only serve as a repository of information on digital dividend projects worldwide, but also help match projects with needs to individuals and organizations who can help them meet those needs.

We invite projects meeting the above guidelines to join the Clearinghouse--just click on Submit a Project. If you have any questions about whether or not your project meets these guidelines, please email us at dividends@wri.org prior to submitting a Project Capsule.

Please note: due to our internal screening process there will be a time delay between when you submit your project capsule and when it appears in the Clearinghouse. Thank you for your patience.

Key Aspects of Project Submission

1. The project capsule is your domain—you will be responsible for uploading and maintaining the information contained therein. You will be able to edit, add, or remove information at your convenience, and we encourage you to keep your capsule as up-to-date as possible.

2. We at WRI are very interested to learn from your experiences as a Digital Dividend Clearinghouse project. Please share this experience—for example, help that you receive or insights or partnership opportunities that you gain--with us by sending an e-mail to dividends@wri.org, or with the whole Clearinghouse community by posting a comment to your project’s capsule.
